A Pretty Big Deal
When the team of twenty Deloitte employees arrived at Good Shepherd Children & Family Services on June 8 for Deloitte’s annual IMPACT Day, they may not have given a second thought about how much a little spring cleaning can do. By the end of the day they knew their hard work earned many new friends and their efforts made life a little more beautiful for the kids who call Good Shepherd home for awhile.
IMPACT Day is Deloitte’s annual celebration of its commitment to communities. This was the 13th annual IMPACT Day and Deloitte’s people participated in more than 800 service projects throughout the United States in over 100 office locations. The project for Good Shepherd was definitely a change of pace from the business solutions work the Deloitte St. Louis office staff does for the agency as a part of Catholic Charities of the St. Louis Archdiocese. Chores ranged from exterior painting in the 90-plus degree heat to hauling old files down from the fourth-floor attic to weeding and mulching.
Not too big a deal, right? Think about how nice it is to come home to an attractive house at the end of the day; about the pride you feel in having spruced the place up. Some 75 to 100 foster youth call Good Shepherd their home in the course of a year and more than 60 staff, neighbors and volunteers try to help make it feel as much of a home as possible. Good Shepherd is a home and a community and the people of Deloitte help make us feel good about being here. It’s a pretty big deal; a pretty big impact.
